With this specific assignment, I was assigned to create a formal letter introducing myself to the Professors. When doing so I needed to make sure I properly formated a letter. Writing letters is important for the future because it allows us to speak professionally to others through the media. When applying for jobs, interviews, or just contacting somebody it is important to understand the different ways of letter writing.
Below is the Formal Letter of Introduction I wrote in this course.

Dear Ms. Rodwell and Ms. Zayas,
My name is Adam Chouman and as an individual, I live each day to the full potential through the endless journey of perseverance, hard work, and time efficiency. I have been raised to perceive society as a building ground and the political spectrum as a system that is always corrupt and needs change. Due to my knowledge and interests in politics, I have a deep motivation to point out injustices and unfairness in many people’s lives today whether it lies in socioeconomic status, education, democracy, and equality. As a result of this interest, I am motivated to create a business that targets employees with a low socioeconomic status. My intended major is Business management and administration because I believe that a business must teach and empower the younger generation on how to move up the social ladder in order to lessen the income gap between the rich and poor. Due to the Coronavirus, I find having fun hard during this time because most outdoor places are closed, however, I find enjoyment in watching podcasts, documentaries, and reading books that have significance to society and how it might change in the future. To add on, the types of books I like reading are usually historical and meaningful such as “A People’s History…” by Zinn and books by historical activists.
Due to having an interest in historical reading, it will feel motivating and interesting to read more books about English and literature in this course. I am usually the type of person that loves to learn new genres and information. As a result, I am looking to become a better writer for the most part because I need to enhance my vocabulary to make my writing seem more sophisticated when analyzing texts and quotes. To add on, in this course, I am specifically getting ready to fix the repetition I could have in my ideas. Due to taking ap English in high school, I pushed myself to learn more about the rhetorical situation and how to identify it. Therefore, it is one of my strengths which allows me to better analyze and figure out the key points of a text. As a student at CCNY, I believe that I will be pushed into my comfort zone to try new courses, learn my information, and become more social. Therefore, I feel like this is a college that motivates its students to thrive in their future and this is the reason why I am taking a variety of courses such as economics, psychology, and English. My academic goal is to retain all the information pertaining to all my courses, increasing my understanding of the material, and getting my degree so I could carry my family away from a poor socioeconomic status.
My first and only language is English because I was born in New York. Therefore, I can speak and write very well. Due to my family of 5 living in a studio apartment, I find it hard to concentrate on my schoolwork. However, with my mentality, I always try to minimize my distractions and work to my best ability. To add on, my family has a low socioeconomic status which forces me to work to provide for my family. As of now, I work about 20 hours a week because I cut it down due to college. Along with helping my family I find it essential to stock groceries and make sure that people can find the items they need during these tough times. All this information that I shared connects to my outside life because as an individual I am always trying to become a better person by expanding my knowledge and trying to make a change in society. To my knowledge, those who are educated and take advantage of their true power can make great changes in this world.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am looking forward to becoming a better writer and reader in this course.
Sincerely,
Adam Chouman
How Did The Formal Letter Of Introduction Address My Growth? What Course Learning Outcome Did I Achieve In This Work?
The formal letter of introduction relates to my growth as a writer because it gave me the skill of properly formatting a letter. Throughout high school, writing letters was never emphasized. Therefore, this first letter forced me to introduce myself to the professors in a different way while keeping in mind the various structures and requirements of the assignment. After rereading my introduction essay, I figured that I scrambled my words when talking in a formal context or way. Therefore, throughout the semester I always reread my formal writing to see if anything needs to be cut out of my sentences.
A portion of the CLO that addressed my growth was “ developing strategies for drafting, revising, and editing” because after I completed my draft I took some time to reevaluate the organization of the letter in order to not confuse the professors. To add on, when revising I put myself into the place of the audience and tried to identify the parts where the essay was not formal. As a result, I made it more personal in connection to myself as a writer. Another strategy was to fix grammar because commas and punctuation are important in the letter process.
Another Part of CLO #1 that relates to my growth of writing more formally was “exploring a new genre” because it was a narrative essay about ourselves written in letter form. This allowed me to change the sentence structures in the letter and change the word choice in order to get the phrases across in an appropriate manner.
